ERVING ‘SIMEY’ SIMONDS

Mr. Simonds was interested in serving Hollis on many different committees. He served on the Fire Department for 25 years, was Deputy Chief for a time, and was instrumental in establishing First Aid training for this department. He was a Leader in establishing the Hollis Church School Band, and served as President for four years. He also started the committee for the Memorial Park to honor the Veterans of World War II, and he chaired the Homecoming Day for the veterans. The f1re station which was attached to the Town Hall was another committee he served on. He was on the building committee for the first elementary school building. He served the town as Civil Defense Director, as well as being on the Board of Health. Erving was among the frst to see the need for zoning regulations in town and served on the committee to write the onginal regulations. Mr. Simonds was always ready and willing to serve on any committee he was asked to be on. He also was one of the group of men who purchased what is now Silver Lake State Park, trying to keep it as natural as possible.
