Henry Hildreth was born March 16, 1911 in Hollis.

As owner/manager of the Hollis Telephone Company, he was the first person many people met when they moved to Hollis because he installed their telephone.  He worked on the lines himself – (see H.L.Hildreth collection of photos and hear UNH oral history interview with Hilda Lull Hildreth re early telephone service).

A very hardworking, conscientious person,he performed many services in Hollis.

He was a 50-year member of the Hollis Fire Dept., assisting in almost every fire in town during those 50 years. There were many chimney and house fires when folks used wood for heat.

Other accomplishments:

• Hollis Town Clerk for 6 years

• Long-time member & secretary of Hillsborough County Fire Wardens

• Donated land across from the Primary School for a fire pond

• Worked with Jeff Smith to research and locate land for the formation of Beaver Brook Association.

• Boy Scout leader for many years

• National Guardsman for 6 years

• Charter member of NH Tree Farm Association promoted the setting up of the Town Forest Committee and served on it for many years.

• Forester, planted many of the trees in town

• Involved in establishing the Conservation Commission.

• Donated the lot for the Faith Baptist Church to be built

• Founding member of the Hollis Historical Society

• Very knowledgable about town history; contributed to "Where the Past Has Been Preserved" history of Hollis.
