MABEL HILLS
Mabel Hills grew up in Hollis but left for service in World War II as a nurse. She went on to a distinguished teaching career in nursing. Since returning to Hollis, she has served on several Town Boards and given greatly to the Town as the head of the Hollis Historical Society and in other roles. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. These reminiscences of Memorial Days in Hollis and the meaning of Memorial Day to a Veteran who was at the Normandy Beaches on Memorial Day carry special significance. Mabel was head of the oral history project for Windows On Hollis Past for some time. She is a talented person in crafts including rug hooking. Don’t miss her talk on “Monuments” both in print here and on CD.
