Road at Long Pond Hill from Charles H. Adams back of George A. Colburn house, back of Colburn barn . Shed and barn have been moved, barn was west of house when David Hayden was small. Shed was on the west side too Moses Wood moved it , Eben Wheeler had on new road built after Captain Wheeler died. Phineas Hardy built shop. Water used to drain both ways‑ from Long Pond. Uncle David Hayden remembers when dam at lower end was raised by Warren Lovejoy and Capy. Wright. Moses Wood lived at George Colburn place, moved to Caleb Farley place.
Big Cooper shop at top of hill by Chestnut tree on south side of the road towards Hollis from Warren Gould’s.
Valentine Harris worked there also owned it. On the south side of the road just beyond this was the Kendrick place where Kendrick killed his mother and sister. Herbert 's base big elm.
Cannon on this hill to announce to Monson that the British were advancing to battle of Lexington. Cannon set in road pointing north and fired three times. The cannon house was just beyond shop on same side of road.
Joseph Patch had big building at Patch’s Corner just about where Frank Wheeler's shop is, a store, a big hall overhead and lived in the ell. Sold 1000 barrels of rum a year. He went to Boston with oxen every week in a Year, sometimes with 4 or 5 yoke of oxen . Later the building was partly moved, remodelled and made into a house just across the the road (Frank Wheeler's). Temperance movement set in and they shut off selling liquor. Store kept for a time in what is now Frank Wheeler’s shop. Made shoes at Frank Wheeler’s shop since Uncle David can remember.
Two shoe shops‑one near Libby's one across road from Capt. Patch's.
Two blacksmiths shops‑one across the road from the school‑house (where lilacs are) one across the road from Herbert Patch’s driveway, there were two forges here. ‑
Near school‑house (cellar hole now filled) was house where Thurston‑Devon‑Royal Woods lived.
Coolidge Wheat 's grave stone shop on top of hill beyound Libby’s north side of road slate came by ox teams from Vermont .
Lieut. Robert Colburn built big house about opposite where road comes down from Cassidy place, below Etheridge . Afterwards Thad Wheeler lived there. A very large house.
